svt as types of addicts
so...saraf relapsed. in order to keep my spirits high (no pun intended) while i try to sort that out, here's the types of addicts svt would end up as in the darkest timeline.
scoups: alcoholic
arguably already true in our current timeline. burdened by past events that still haunt him, he drinks to forget.
his favorite drink would be beer, despite its low alcohol content. i think when scoups imagines an alcoholic, he imagines a guy with a big bottle of hard liquor, so in his own mind he's not an alcoholic and doesn't have a problem.
he tries to avoid drinking alone, because that's what alcoholics do. therefore, he's always hanging out with different friends throughout the day, getting hammered. "my tolerance is just high" he says, justifying his 4th beer over lunch.
jeonghan: opiates
specifically painkillers. it's not like little ol jeonghan is gonna be buying black tar heroin off the streets, even though that would honestly go kinda hard.
stuff like oxycodone is so efficient for pain relief and kills all stress, too. so of course jeonghan likes them. since they were prescribed by a doctor, it doesn't count as an addiction, right?
seungkwan is like omg you're literally a fiend for oxys GO TO REHAB and Jeonghan's like why the fuck would i go to rehab for my PAINKILLERS that were PRESCRIBED to me by my DOCTOR?! at least I'm not doing lines like your messy ass! (promptly nods out)
joshua: shopping
I can't imagine the ever-practical joshua actually getting hooked on an illicit substance, but i can definitely imagine him getting addicted to the dopamine rush of purchasing high-ticket items.
the thing is, he's able to convince himself that all of his purchases are necessary, even as they become more and more extravagant. he's got money to blow, but if he keeps burning through it in luxury stores like this, his reserves won't last long...
cue joshua getting really into crypto or the stock market in order to earn back enough cash to continue shopping like a crazy person. cue the typical American credit card debt arc.
jun: inhalants
this is mostly just me drawing parallels between jun and charlie kelly lol. he feels like an outcast, so this bad habit is partly driven by spite.
he has favorite things to huff. i think he considers nitrous oxide to be mainstream and prefers chroming. he sometimes shows up to a function with spray paint all around his nose and mouth area, yapping like a loon. and no, he doesn't care what you think.
because of how toxic inhalants are, he probably only does them when he's around people. he's fine when he's alone, it's svt who drive him nuts.
hoshi: meth
potentially true in our current timeline. meth is South Korea's drug of choice, largely because of their work-til-you-collapse culture.
it gives him boundless energy and he swears it improves his dancing abilities. it also makes him erratic, aggressive, and a little psychotic - traits which only fuel his journey to the top of the food chain.
nobody would try to intervene with his habit, because what's even the point. he's delusional and has meth strength, so you're really only putting yourself in harm's way.
wonu: benzos
on the other end of the spectrum, we have the desperate-for-peace wonu. he's stressed out by life and got prescribed klonopin for his nerves.
i think he was aware of the fact that it's addictive, but he accepted it as a necessary evil. he was like "well, it's still better than rawdogging this shit" and willingly flushed himself down the vortex of benzo dependence. at least he's self-aware.
he admits to having a problem but it's with such a tongue-in-cheek tone that I don't think anyone can really gauge just how much he's using lol. he's like "yup I'm a fiend"
woozi: adderall
Adderall is notably absent from the sin pillars. It helps woozi focus and stay awake. He knows it's basically meth but he's in deep denial about that.
he doesn't have ADHD, so it stimulates him a lot. if he takes too much, he goes a little crazy, but he's convinced that these manic episodes are just "bursts of creativity". he and hoshi get methed up and record the most fucked shit of all time in the studio.
scoups would be like hey man im worried about you...and woozi would be like oh, YOU'RE worried about ME? at least i don't have LIVER DAMAGE.
dk: vaping
i actually think dk is scared of drugs and doesn't have as much of an addictive personality as you'd think. however, he's weak to peer pressure, so when he sees other people his age vaping, he tries it too.
the funny thing is, he treats it like he's doing crack lol. he's super secretive about it for no reason and he cries because he's so ashamed of his nicotine dependence. he probably "comes out" as an addict to someone and then somberly pulls out a mango elfbar.
not saying that nicotine isn't addictive cuz it's probably the MOST addictive lol. but let's not act like you're kurt cobain for this shit, dk...
mingyu: coke
party boy! mingyu would get introduced to this by a friend (side eyes jungkook) and does some cheeky lines at the club.
he loves the way it feels but more than that, he loves the "scene" of people who use it lol. he likes partying with the rich cokeheads and he likes the attention they give him, he's more addicted to that than anything else. but if you use coke all the time you're gonna get hooked on that, too.
he's a pussy about comedowns and withdrawals so he resorts to doing cheeky lines by himself, too. mingyu showing up to svt dinner with a powdered nose was really funny.
minghao: kratom
he swears this isn't a drug and that it's a traditional herbal remedy. and like, he's not WRONG, but I don't think you should always be carrying a huge flask of the herbal remedy around with you lol.
he's in complete denial about the risks and swears all studies showing negative impacts and outcomes of long-term use are biased and phony. he's like no, it's actually good for me that I drink it five times per day and I can stop whenever I want.
He can't stop whenever he wants, obviously, and if you take his precious plant powder away from him, he'll be sobbing from withdrawals within 24 hours.
seungkwan: polydrug
seungkwan would have three different drugs of choice - a stimulant to get himself up and running for work, something euphoric to keep him from snapping during work, and a sedative for getting to sleep.
he's aware that he's in deep shit, so he takes a bunch of vitamins and eats healthy and does sport to compensate. but you can't outrun gurning, edema, and kidney damage forever. i think he's secretive about it and nobody actually knows what he's doing except jeonghan, who doesn't really care.
amphetamines in the morning, gabapentinoids in the afternoon, and z-drugs in the evening...lowkey I'm jealous. he's besties with his psychiatrist so he has unlimited access.
vern: weed
don't let vern find out where you can buy weed because it'll never end. he's like obsessed with being high. and nobody can tell the difference since he's quiet anyways.
or so he thinks, cuz he REEKS. His eyes are always red and his mouth is always so dry you can hear it when he talks lol. He's also going crazy because he used too much and got a little psychotic, but he keeps that to himself. Don't read his blog tho cuz it's now full of conspiracy theories.
he's like "it's not addictive" and I'm like well maybe not physically but...lol. no weed 24 hour challenge and vern fails within 8 hours (he was asleep and then realized he needed to wake and bake)
dino: gambling
dino drinks, we know that, but i couldn't see him becoming an alcoholic. I could, however, see him becoming a gambler for some reason lol.
He's betting on horses... playing the slot machines... spending what little change he has left on lottery tickets and scratch cards... "No, THIS time I'm gonna win!" he insists. "you always win right after a big losing streak..."
it's honestly kind of adorable. And he doesn't recognize it as an addiction, only a hobby, so he keeps inviting his friends to the casino with him lol. And then you have stoned-ass vern and cracked-out seungkwan gambling as well, which is awesome and nothing could go wrong.
