GOING SEVENTEEN (2016)
The fifth part of my SVT discography review! This track-by-track review was written in the spring of 2023, but my opinions haven't changed much.
Ranking system:
🍇 - 10.0 BNM one of their most iconic slays
🍉 - fantastic song that made me feel something
🍓 - eating, a few flaws that are either easy to overlook or a bit charming
🍊 - good background music but i wouldn't seek it out
🍌 - it does nothing for me but isn't outright offensive
🍐 - does nothing for me and is offensive
🍈 - so bad that it almost wraps back around to good just bc i was laffing so much

🍐🍈 BEAUTIFUL
Sorry but Josh going "my life is so beautiful" in his rocket voice totally took me out. Also why does the chorus feel unfinished…mingyu was like, giving out of breath during his verse. Also hoshi was REALLY into this song lol like calm down your life is beautiful I GET IT…at least dk still sings gorgeously but at what cost. Minghao was giving nose gold. Dino was like OK LET'S SLOW IT DOWN AND GET SERIOUS…and then mingyu just lisp-interrupts him oh my god this song is NOT serious…jeez Minghao's voice in this is like…it's in his nose but it's NOT NASAL AT ALL!!!
🍓 I DON'T KNOW
Well I definitely like that jeonghan gets a whole prechorus to himself. The rest is a little meandering…seungkwan sounds gorg tho so I also like that. There is something those keys remind me of … this one sorta mid bjork song that has rly great keys just like that. So I don't hate it. I think I hate beautiful more than this but it's not like I'd be sprinting to listen to this either. I like how they try to make jeonghan serve a slightly more powerful vocal that was cute. Woozi sounds absolutely pathetic on the bridge, I like that too. The way the instrumental is set up reminds me a tiny bit of school food punishment for some reason so that might be endearing me to it.
🍓🍈 BOOM BOOM
Okay so this is already the funniest song ever just cuz of the instrumental. Like…TURN RIGHT TURN LEFT alright…and scoups was in his camp bag btw. The double-chorus kinda thing they've got going on here is epic cuz that prechorus tricks me. HIT ME HIT ME HIT ME ok you're asking for it!!!(smacks them) Woozi's unstoppable passion that he plans to pour into this hug…just wait til he has sex fkgnrjggn. OKAY DINO'S AUDITION I FORGOT OMG HE WAS GIVING EVERYTHING okay that bumps this song up a rank just for that lol like they rly put their um…seventussies…into this…for some reason…
🍉 HIGHLIGHT
Why are they already so esoteric like the lyrics have a different vibe than their other songs. Honestly it's really eating me right up…until that drop. That drop is SLOPPY but it's also kinda camp so I'll let it slide. I miss when songs had those low distorted voices it's very mid-2010s. Synth goes NUTS in the second verse. Dino…I love dino a lot lol. This song kinda rules idk…if I still smoked grass I bet even the drop would get me. As it is, it's the weakest part of the song but it's not weak enough to make this not eat. Woozi didn't write any part of this song and it shows in how different the lyrics/vibe are but it's cool to have that variety. I can tell soonchan were having EPIPHANIES writing this…idk is it just me or does it eat.
🍇 LEAN ON ME
Why is scoups singing voice kinda nice…I don't mind if he wants to sing gfh. Also Vern talking about being DRUNK? YOU ARE A CHILD! Okay the meanie contrast is sorta camp. Mingyu: gurl… Also Wonu's rap voice vs singing voice contrast is kinda awesome. Idk this is kinda slaying for me…it's very vibey like it's giving coffeeshop but not in a falling for u way. Wonu kinda takes me out when he's doing that talk-singing thing djdhfjdd. I really REALLY like the bridge idk that was kinda gorgeous…kind of a rly good song…why do I like this so much…what's wrong with me…do I have brain damage…don't look at the grape…
🍇 SMILE FLOWER
Oh it's their wedding vows … Jeonghan sounds so sincere lol. Josh's part suits him so that's great because I was worried woozi was forgetting how to write for him. WHY DOES SEUNGKWAN SING WITH SO MUCH EMOTION I CAN'T NOT BE MOVED. Okay I'm buying the svt family bond real propaganda like I'm 100% on that boat rn. Also wow dk sings so beautifully…ME TO MYSELF: YOU WERE MOVED. Jun's little spoken word bit he was like oh I have to read this? Ok…and woozi started crying djsngjrdn. Btw woozi sounds BROKEN LMFAOOOO he was moved. Wonu's bit at the end is completely adorable.
🍇🍈 FAST PACE
Okay so this has the best intro of any song ever recorded. Also it's kinda giving me like spicy glee performance BUT I MEAN THAT IN THE BEST POSSIBLE WAY NO OFFENSE INTENDED. The seokhan chorus is kinda hot to me idk if that's intentional (I'm assuming it is) or if I'm just messed up. Also josh…three fierce fems on stage! Dino was rly giving this his all. He always serves. Idk this song is kinda everything I feel like I'm glad I didn't hear this in middle school because I might've somehow become more LGBT? Also meanie's little bridge is VERY slay. Seokhan you really do sound sexy on this song, you should sing together more often. Kind of a great song lmfao like I like it a lot more than I logically should.
🍇 DONT LISTEN IN SECRET
OH I LOVE A GOOD BALLAD LETS HEAR THIS. Josh's slowly distorting voice is scary. Jeonghan sounds pretty…honey voice 🤩 Woozi had his first real breakup huh because he is RUINED. Ohhh…Seungkwan is GIVING bitter wedding singer I kinda need to marry him in real…Booseok singing together as they should…different vibes but also both DEFINITELY insane and not over it. Toxic exes…Woozi saying "I'm a fool for you" got me. SEUNGKWAN'S PERFORMANCE…The ONLY flaw this song has is making josh do that falsetto fnfjfnd but it's for two seconds so I'll forgive it. I love vocu I could listen to them forever.
