the 18th part of my svt discography review!

Ranking system:

🍇 - 10.0 BNM one of their most iconic slays
🍉 - fantastic song that made me feel something
🍓 - eating, a few flaws that are either easy to overlook or a bit charming
🍊 - good background music but i wouldn't seek it out
🍌 - it does nothing for me but isn't outright offensive
🍐 - does nothing for me and is offensive
🍈 - so bad that it almost wraps back around to good just bc i was laffing so much

🍊? Fuck My Life
Mingyu calling himself the dumbest person alive is LOL. There is some kinda magic in that sample. It makes me wish this song had a little more oomph to it. Cuz like there are totally parts of this that I like but there are parts that are…like…a bit too mid… (the guitar riff being just GRNN….GRNN…GRNN… super low in the mix, the shimmeries at the end of the chorus, the meandering nature of the verses) . Dino saying he looks so dumb it’s almost ridiculous is LOL. I wish they had used that sample better cuz when it shows back up I am genuinely moved and invested. Le sigh…fight for my life…

🍈 Super
Wonu saying he always wins is awesome actually. When the nerd gets his confidence… I agree that the darumdarimda part is nice and catchy. Jeonghan rapping (?)….yoonzino! That drop is a little nauseating. The part where hoshi starts screaming about his team and crew legitimately scares me a bit. okay scoups is kinda in his camp bag. Didn’t he have those ridiculous extensions in and have a group of men sort of launch him dfoigdjfibhfg….not to compliment minghao but the way he says the main line sounds nice. Jun getting a whole bridge to himself and then woozi mickey mousing into the facking house…like if I’m being real the ending is kinda awesome lmfaoooo… PING!

🍓 I don’t understand but I love u
Having sex in a foreign language lol. Who inspired this? Like I’m loath to imagine all the overseas hookups this particular unit has had…especially hoshi. Speaking of hoshi, there’s this one part where he sounds like he goes “POOP!” very emphatically. This is kinda 2015-weeknd coded but that’s not a diss in any way. It’s fun to see kpop idols try that style. Not to be an 8star but I do like when he says the main line and that’s happened on two songs on this album so that’s fun. Very sexy song but almost pillowtalk-y in its heaviness and pacing.

🍓 April Shower
So when I first listened to this album I think I got like 30 seconds into this one and then turned it off…I can’t remember why, so let’s see. It’s not too bad. Jeonghan gets the first post-chorus and the post-chorus is probably the best part of the song. Josh gets the beginning of verse 2 and it’s a bit funny. I think seungkwan was like dying inside during the recording of this song cuz he wasn’t giving what he usually gives. The post-chorus really is good. I could see it growing on me just because of that part, but I could also see myself forgetting this song exists completely.

🍓 Dust
This SHOULD be my favorite song on the album. Compared to IDUBILU it’s feather-light and has all those fun retro sounds I like. Plus, booseok vocal stylings. It’s kinda dreampoppy, like their take on txt’s ghosting. Ghosting is better by a country mile, though. Like this is totally serviceable and has some very nice moments (including fun jeonghan vocal moments) but I think its airy quality is actually to its detriment at the end of the day, cuz the chorus just doesn’t satisfy you the way you want it to. Still, it’s a nice listen and I’d voluntarily listen to it. DK…you sing your shit.

🍉 Fire
The way this is actually my favorite song on the album is so embarrassing lmfao…like I shouldn’t be so amused by this…idk like is it just me or does it kind of knock…is there something wrong with me? Like those random clinking sounds in the bg and “you just died” video game synths…and then facking wonu comes through with the vocoder…it almost feels like they tried making god’s menu but they’re not stray kids they’re um, Vernon. And scoups. And meanie. So it turned out like this. And it’s still good to be honest.
